Technology has changed the way people travel in the 21st Century. Today, every person who plans a trip starts with researching online about a destination to booking flights and hotels to finding local attractions and ends it by uploading pictures on technology-based social platforms.  Carrying multiple books have transformed to 1 Amazon Kindle, All bookings, Physical tickets and Cash have changed to e-tickets and online payments, Foreign language phrasebooks have been replaced by Google translate and Duolingo, Guide Maps are becoming a thing of the past with Google maps. The latest development to join the tourism space is the Innovative Blockchain Technology said to be a boon in identification, payments, and personalization for travelers.

In a candid conversation, modern day’s most popular traveler Alex Chacon talks about how technology helps him to explore countries around the world. Alex is a Texas-based medical student who sold all his belongings in 2012 to travel around the world and has traveled to more than 50 countries today and continues his journey of exploring places. Alex documents and shares his travel experiences on Youtube (https://www.youtube.com/user/chaiku232) and Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/alexchacon_official/) and says that the internet has really enabled him to connect with people across the world. While he still likes to move around countries in an old-school way with a physical map and a multi-purpose wrist watch, Chacon makes appropriate use of technology whenever necessary.

“Technology has truly changed the way we look at the world. Today, I am able to meet and share my videos with millions in different parts of the world purely because of the evolution of the internet. Software’s like Adobe Premiere Pro and Photoshop plays a huge role in showcasing my work in the most creative and beautiful manner. Because of the quality in which I can produce content, it inspires my viewers and is almost like traveling the world virtually with me”, says Alex Chacon.

His first phone was the iconic Nokia 3310 and a camera from Fuji. Alex shot his first video at the age of 17 in 2005 while he was traveling from California to New York. Today, in his tech-check list, he ensures to pack his Sony A7 Camera, a minimum of 2 GoPro cameras, a Drone and a Laptop. Apart from this, below is a list of Apps that help him make his travel plans convenient.

  1. Google Maps:As a motorcycle tourer I often venture in places that are unknown to many people. In such situations, Google Maps helps Alex to navigate and travel in a faster and easier way. It helps to get real-time GPS navigation, traffic, and transit information, explore the local neighborhood and know where to eat, drink and go.
